The Magazine Boom

Australians are some of the most voracious consumers of magazines in the world and in recent times, many organisations have chosen to produce their own magazines to broadcast their message and further their brand. The latest Roy Morgan survey highlights some interesting statistics on magazine readership:

• Magazine readership rose by 3.8% during the 12 months preceding September 2006
• 71% of men and 81% of women read at least one consumer magazine – that’s 12.8 million Australians aged over 14 years
• Magazine readership increases among higher socio-economic quintiles
• 33% of Australians 14+ years (5.5 million people) are classified as heavy magazine readers (read 5+ magazines at the time of the survey)
